Media is in plural form. The word “medium” is derived from the neuter form of the Latin medius (middle) and means “something in a middle position, condition or degree;” a means of effecting or conveying something or a channel or vehicle of communication, such as a publication or broadcast that carries a message, appeal or information. The plural form of medium is media, and it is wrong to say the medias. The term mass media means vehicles, instruments or means of communications designed to reach the mass of the people. To many owners and managers of media, their organizations are service institutions geared to filling a public need for news, information and entertainment. In order to carry out this function effectively, they strive to give their media a competitive advantage – constantly improving media content and appeal in such a manner as to entice substantial portions of the public.

How Media Get the Attention of Audience
· Size – it need not be stated that the bigger the advertisement, the greater is the chance that it will catch the attention of the readers.
· Movement – Neon signs which sparkle during the night, indicating the names of products, brand names & others, can catch the attention of passersby.
· Isolation – it is aimed at blanking out other possible stimulating conditions so that the attention of the customers could focused on the advertised product and on nothing else.
· Color – a proper blend of colors with bright ones being very prominent would help draw the attention and interest of customers, potential and actual alike.
· Repetition – care should be taken to insure that the repetition made does not in any way bore the audience to death; otherwise, the advertisement will produce a negative effect.
· Uniqueness – something new, something novel which makes up for uniqueness will easily draw the attention of the target audience.
